Leeds WordPress meetup – Tues. 28th Feb. 2017

The next WordPress Leeds Meetup is on Tuesday 28th February at our usual venue, Futurelabs in Leeds. This month we’ll be doing our popular “round table” format – with discussions around blogging, security, performance, design – and anything else which is requested on the evening.

If you haven’t been before, they are a great way to get both those burning questions answered and meet new people.

A big thank you to FutureLabs who let us use their fantastic venue for free! Thanks to the lovely folks at Delicious Media, there will be pizza for everyone at the start of the event.

Agenda

6:00pm: Doors open for pizza and drinks
6:15pm: Introduction and welcome
6:20pm: WordPress news from Tim Nash
6:30pm: Round Tables and Site Surgery
8:30pm: Event finishes & Social

After the event, we will be heading to Headrow House for further discussion and drinks.

Full details are on the WordPress Leeds website. The event is, of course, free to attend but we’d appreciate it if you could let us know you are attending via our Meetup group so we can arrange for food and drink.

WordPress London Meetup #wpldn – 23 Feb. 2017

Two great speakers lined up for you this month at #wpldn, coming from two highly respected, truly global, WordPress agencies; 10up & Human Made.

Privacy by Design: 7 things you can’t afford to ignore.

Even in a post Brexit UK, the new law on data protection is going to change things for your website and digital platform, whether you are technical, UX or a business owner.  In this presentation Danny will explain the practical steps you must take so that you don’t fall foul of the new regime.  Danny will also explain the likely impact of this European legislation on a post Brexit UK and on any website/app that targets EU consumers.

Presented by Danny Dagan.  Danny is a Senior Web Strategist for WordPress agency 10up, who are key contributors to WordPress core.  He is also legally educated and wrote a dissertation about the new data protection regime.  He loves combining the two ‘geek professions’, tech and law, and promises not to use Latin unless it is entirely necessary (though Dothraki and Klingon may be featured).  Follow him @e_d_dagan

Leveraging the Customizer for Big Media.

The Customizer is one of the most powerful parts of WordPress, its a great tool for users, and big media to customise the message of content in a visual way.  We’ll be looking at an example of this and what type of features can be built around the customizer experience.

Presented by Dan Westall.  Dan is a WordPress Engineer @ Human Made, who has been known to talk about WordPress Customizer, using WordPress for Esports and Web Sockets, but not always in that order.  Follow him @danwestall_

Glasgow WordPress co-working meet – Thursday 9th Feb

Every 2nd Thursday of the month from 6:30pm at Citizen M’s

WPGlasgow co-working meet, January 2017

Bring your questions, ideas or problems and hopefully we can all help each other out.

The beauty of this group is that you need no knowledge of WordPress to come along and join in straight away.

Do you want to know how to begin building a website, have you got a website and are having difficulties or do you just want to share your knowledge? Then this is the place to do so.

Previous meet-ups have been a great success! Our group is growing each month with new people coming along and sharing knowledge and experience which is great for all us newbie’s like me.

What have you got to lose, come see for yourself, could be the start of great things.

See you there !!

Mags x
