6:30 pm – ‘Fake News’, WordPress, and Freedom of Speech Online

A look at freedom of speech online in the age of ‘fake news’, from WordPress.com Community Guardian and Internet law specialist ‘Clicky Steve’.

About the speaker: Stephen McLeod Blythe (aka ‘Clicky Steve’) is a tech law geek from Glasgow. He is a member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, ACLU, and the Open Rights Group Supporters’ Council. Stephen writes passionately about digital rights and constitutional law, as a fierce advocate of freedom of expression, and currently  spends most of his time defending WordPress users from abusive copyright and trademark claims (amongst other things) as Community Guardian for Automattic.

7:15 pm – Scots EduBlogging

John Johnston will talk about the development and use of blogs in Scottish Education and his personal experience of blogs in teaching and learning.

With 150.000+ sites, Glow Blogs is the biggest WordPress install that you don’t know about. A Glow account provides access to a number of web services and procured resources that allow users to create, collaborate and innovate.

About the speaker: John Johnston is a primary school teacher in Banton, North Lanarkshire. He works (part time) as Product Owner for Glow Blogs and has been interested in Open Education and an enthusiastic proponent for blogging and podcasting in the classroom for over 10 years.

We would like to very much thank GCU Career Service for allowing us the use of such fantastic venue and for the internal promotion of the event.
