Companion Auto Update

Description

Keep your website safe!

We understand that you might not always be able to check if your WordPress site has any updates that need to be installed. Especially when you maintain multiple websites, keeping them up to date can be a lot of work.
This plugin enables background auto-updating for all plugins, all themes and the WordPress core (both major and minor updates).
We give you full control over what is updated and what isn’t, via the settings page you can easily disallow auto-updating for either plugins, themes or wordpress core.

Available settings

Full control, that’s what this plugin is all about. We offer settings to enable or disable automatic updating for plugins, themes, wordpress core updates (both minor and major can be changed separately) and for translation files.

Know what’s happening

We want you to know what’s happening on your website. This plugin offers settings for various email notifications. We can send you an email when an update is available, when a plugin has been updated or when wordpress has been updated.
But if you don’t want to recieve emails about this you can still log in and view the changelog to see what happened.

Advanced Controls

You can control auto-updating per plugin via the plugin filter.
For example: If you have Woocommerce installed but you do not wan’t to have it auto-updated you can now disable auto-updating for Woocommerce only, so your other plugins will continue to be updated.

Scheduling

By default the updater will run twice a day, but you can change this to every hour or to daily. When set to daily you can even set the time at which it should run, this way you can make sure that it will not overload your server by letting it run at times with less activity. The same settings can be set for notifications.

FAQ

Can I disable auto-updating for certain plugins?

Yes. You can control auto-updating per plugin via the plugin filter.

I’m using cPanel and auto-updating doesn’t work

A few years ago cPanel added a line by default that would disable auto-updating. According to cPanel this can be fixed by removing the line “AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED” from your wp-config file.

My theme by Elegant Themes is not updating

For some reason this plugin seems to have trouble with updating themes by Elegant Themes on some installs. I’ve reached out to Elegant Themes and they couldn’t help me. They said that if you’re experiencing problems with it you should contact them and they would help you with it.

Reviews

Great plugin

Very easy to use, works perfectly, has loads of options. Great work!

Easy and complete

This is the best auto-update plugin I've tried. It's not overly complicated. Yet, it does everything that I want. It's nice to be able to set some plugins to not auto-update and still get email notification when updates are available. Thank you for this great tool.

how it should be

Easy to set up, then all you have to do is let it do its thing. That's how all stuff should work. Don't forget to give them some sugar, or better yet, donate a little money. Its a free plugin after all, that saves you a ton of time and gives you peace of mind cause your stuff will always be up to date automatically, which makes your side more secure and run smoother. Just get it!

Saves time

Great plugin. I use it on several of my clients sites so I don't have to go in and manually update each time there is a new version of a plugin. I only recommend using with caution on sites where maybe you have a lot of plugins and need to constantly monitor if things break after update, but for smaller sites with few plugins, this is great and works without hitch.
