Helcim for WooCommerce lets you accept all major credit cards and GooglePay directly on your WordPress store while saving on processing fees. This free plugin connects your store to your Helcim account and processes payments through HelcimPay.js — a secure, hosted checkout that handles card data for you, reducing your PCI compliance scope.

Order management stays within WooCommerce but payments run on Helcim’s transparent interchange-plus pricing: you pay the true cost from the card networks plus one clear margin, with no monthly fee, no PCI fee, and rates that fall automatically as your volume grows.

Installation

Step 1: Create a Helcim account – Sign up for free in minutes — no paperwork, no commitments, no monthly fee. Start here.

Step 2: Generate an API token – Once your account is approved, generate your API token. You can do this by Integrations > API Configuration > Create an API token. This token will securely link your Helcim account to your WooCommerce store later.

Step 3: Install the Helcim for WooCommerce (v5) plugin

You can install the plugin directly from your WordPress admin dashboard or download it manually from the WordPress Plugin Directory or WooCommerce Marketplace.

Install from the WordPress Admin Dashboard

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
Navigate to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
Search for Helcim for WooCommerce.
Select the Helcim plugin from the search results to view its details.
Click Install Now, then Activate once the installation is complete.

Once the plugin is activated, you can proceed with connecting it to your Helcim account using the API token generated in Step 2.

Step 4: Configure your checkout – In WordPress, go to Payments › Helcim and hit Manage. Set up how you want to get paid: – Title: The payment method name your customer sees at checkout. – Description: The payment method description shown to customers at checkout. – Environment: Choose where to deploy the plugin — Sandbox (testing) or Live. – Live API token: The token you created, linking WooCommerce to Helcim. – Branding and others: Add your logo and brand colors, enable Google Pay, and let customers securely save their card for future purchases

Step 5: Test a live transaction. Run a real payment end-to-end to make sure everything’s wired up correctly before you go live. Your first $5 in card transactions is fee-free — test it through and through, on us.

FAQ

Can Helcim reduce WooCommerce transaction fees?: Yes. Processing your WooCommerce payments through Helcim uses transparent interchange-plus pricing, which is often lower than typical flat-rate WooCommerce payment options — and the margin drops automatically as your monthly volume grows.
Does the integration require an API?: Yes. The plugin uses a Helcim API token to process payments and sync refunds and tokenized customer payment details through Helcim’s payment system. Order management stays in WooCommerce.
How do I access the integration?: Install the Helcim for WooCommerce plugin in WordPress, then connect your Helcim API credentials in your WooCommerce payment settings.
Is there a cost to use the integration?: No. The plugin is free, and you only pay standard Helcim processing fees on the transactions you run.
Does it support recurring payments or subscriptions?: Not in this release. WooCommerce Subscriptions and automated recurring billing are planned for a future version.
Which currencies are supported?: Both CAD and USD are supported.

I’ve used stripe’s plugin for years. Very solid. But wanted to try Helcim, which seems to be a great Canadian company with honest policies. But their woocommerce plugin is weak and not frequently updated. Couple of key issues: They don’t support USD purchases. Our store is set up for CAD and USD but the plugin fails ungracefully if someone wants to pay in USD. They don’t handle order refunds/voids transparently. If I create an order in the backend and then minutes later refund it via the WC backend, as I do in Stripe (eg a live test after a software update), the helcim plugin should understand that it needs to void/null the transaction at Helcim rather than refund it. Instead, it tries to refund it and fails outright with no clear idea why. In speaking with Helcim support (which initially I found quite unresponsive after creating a ticket), they grudgingly admitted that that might be a function they should support. I had a long interview with a junior product manager in Calgary some days later and he did not seem to really know much about woocommerce or wordpress. I spent 30-40 minutes teaching him, and he asked a lot of super basic questions. I told him that if they want more than 300 installations of their plugin, they need to make it way better. It just has to work, like 99% of other wordpress plugins do. At the point I spoke to him, their plugin hadn’t been updated in a year, which speaks of lackadaisical attention to it. So, as much as I want to send business their way, we’re an ecommerce store, not a point of sale terminal shop, and I guess I’ll have to wait until they get their ecommerce act together.

Flawless plugin and great customer support – best thing we ever did was change over to Helcim. This update is really solid but you will have to reconfigure one of the keys with the newest version – customer support will walk you through in minutes to adjust your CRM,

Helcim support was not aware that woocommerce account creation at checkout is not implemented & freezes the page if the user attempts to make a purchase that matches that scenario. It would be nice if they were to change things so: – The product support all native features of the Woocommerce checkout page – The documentation mentions native features that are not supported if there are any – Give an error message instead of freezing the checkout page (fail gracefully at least please) – Train their staff not to tell people the feature is not available because of some “limitations”, when in fact Helcim chose not to implement it. If anyone has some magic way to make this work, I’m all ears. Thanks for listening.
