Installation

Minimum Requirements

  • WordPress 3.8 or greater
  • PHP version 5.2.4 or greater
  • MySQL version 5.0 or greater

Automatic Installation

Automatic installation is the easiest option as WordPress handles the file transfers itself and you don’t even need to leave your web browser. To do an automatic install of SportsPress, log in to your WordPress admin panel, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New.

In the search field type “SportsPress” and click Search Plugins. Once you’ve found our sports plugin you can view details about it such as the point release, rating and description. Most importantly, of course, you can install it by simply clicking Install Now. After clicking that link you will be asked if you’re sure you want to install the plugin. Click Yes and WordPress will automatically complete the installation.

Manual Installation

The manual installation method involves downloading our sports plugin and uploading it to your webserver via your favourite FTP application.

  1. Download the plugin file to your computer and unzip it
  2. Using an FTP program, or your hosting control panel, upload the unzipped plugin folder to your WordPress installation’s /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
  3. Activate the plugin from the Plugins menu within the WordPress admin.

Upgrading

Automatic updates should work like a charm; as always though, ensure you backup your site just in case.

If on the off-chance you do encounter issues with the event/team/player/staff pages after an update, you simply need to flush the permalinks by going to WordPress > Settings > Permalinks and hitting ‘Save’. That should return things to normal.

Which sports does this plugin support?

The plugin will support most team sports with a scoring system. You can customise the table columns and player statistics via SportsPress settings. We’ve included presets for commonly requested sports, and you can also add your own.

Will SportsPress work with my theme?

Yes; SportsPress will work with any theme, but may require some styling to make it match nicely.

Where can I report bugs or contribute to the project?

Bugs can be reported either in our support forum or preferably on the SportsPress GitHub repository.

Will SportsPress work with my sport?

The plugin comes preinstalled with several different sports presets to help you get started quickly, but is also flexible enough to be customised to fit the needs of any team or individual sport. Please let us know if you’d like to work with us to get your preset added to the plugin.

Can I import teams/players/staff/matches?

Yes, CSV importers are included with the plugin. Go to Tools > Import and choose from one of the SportsPress CSV importers. Supports CSV files generated by LeagueLobster.

What’s the difference between the free and Pro plugin?

SportsPress is a free plugin developed to give sports organisations the functionality needed to run a team, club, or league website. The plugin allows you to schedule your upcoming matches and enter the results after you’ve played a game. Your league tables, team and player statistics will automatically update once you’ve published the result to reflect the new standings.

Limitations? Don’t worry, there are no limitations to the number of events, players, staff members, teams, clubs, or leagues you can add to the free plugin.

SportsPress Pro is a premium plugin made for serious teams who are looking for additional sports functionality in their website. By upgrading to SportsPress Pro, you will be given instant access to a suite of sports modules that will appear in your dashboard.

The current modules that are available exclusively to SportsPress Pro are:

  • Tournaments: Create and display tournaments in a bracket/knockout cup format.
  • Timelines: Display a visual timeline of player performance in events.
  • Scoreboard: Display multiple event results in a horizontal scoreboard.
  • Sponsors: Add your sponsors on your website and track each of their clicks and impressions.
  • Staff Directories: Show contact information of your key personnel so people know who to get in touch with.
  • Team Access: Assign users to a specific team and limit their access to data related to that team.
  • Team Colours: Make each team’s profile page unique by displaying their team colours.
  • League Menu: Display a global navigation bar at the top of your website for easy navigation from one team to the next.
  • Twitter: Add a Twitter feed to team, player, and staff pages.
  • Branding: Instantly rebrands your admin panel to reflect your organisation’s brand.
  • Duplicator: Clone anything with just one click. Great for creating multiple events.

There are 3 different licences that you can choose from: Club, League, and Agency.

When you upgrade to one of the SportsPress Pro licences, you can simply activate the Pro version without losing any of your data. Please note that we recommend that you do a complete backup whenever you make big changes to your website.

Reviews

Excellent Support

The plugin is an excellent plugin for any type of sports league. Best part about it is that the support staff went out of their way to help me set up everything. They always replied back very quickly with the answers I needed. Thanks again.

Great support

Needed some help with SportsPress theme layout and get really great help from support to my questions in a very short time.

Good functionality, great dev team

Using this for a few years. Functionality is complex, and while it still doesn’t meet 100% of my needs for a recreational sports league, it is the most effective of the sports plugins i’ve tried.
The development team is open, responsive, energetic and active. That bodes well for the future of this plugin.

Best Theme and Support Team Ever!

I needed a theme to help me run the league website for the South Devon Football League so I started by looking at what other leagues and clubs were using. When I came across a team using Football Club and the SportsPress plug-in I realised straight away I had found what I was looking for. Usually I find that the initial satisfaction wears off after a while but not with ThemeBoy. They are constantly improving on things and making things easier and more functional. Starting from such a high end baseline that is some achievement! I bought a Developers’ Licence and now run three sites using Football Club – one for a league, one for a club and one for an individual athlete.

The support team are always quick to respond and helpful. Often with tech support teams there is a lot of tech and not much in the way of support. ThemeBoy actually come across as nice people while the power and design of SportsPress and ThemeBoy speak for themselves about the team’s coding expertise. I might even start using Football Club for my non sports-related websites – these guys are THAT good.

Nice Plugin Nice Template Nice Support

I am really gratefull to Themeboy support they always response and solved and always kindly. The “SportsPress – Sports Club & League Manager” Plugin its perfect for our Football club, is very nice, and work eficiently at 100%.
Thankyou Very much!! and go for more themes 😉 !!!
