## Description

### Age Verification and Identity Verification for WordPress and WooCommerce

Token of Trust helps WordPress and WooCommerce businesses **verify customer age
and identity** using identity-backed verification.

Add age verification to WooCommerce checkout, verify customers using government-
issued ID, and configure when verification is required for age-restricted products
and customer journeys.

Built for businesses selling vape, tobacco, nicotine, alcohol, and other age-restricted
products, with identity verification and KYC capabilities for businesses that need
to verify more than age.

[**Start using Token of Trust for free**](https://app.tokenoftrust.com/hq/register?utm_source=wordpress&utm_medium=integration&utm_campaign=wordpress&utm_content=wordpress.org_plugin-page).**
No credit card required.**

Get free verifications when you create your Token of Trust account. Set up your
WordPress or WooCommerce integration, run live verifications, and explore Token
of Trust’s verification features at your own pace.

Keep track of your remaining free verifications in your account. When you need more,
choose a paid plan to keep verifying.

#### More Than an Age Gate

A basic age gate asks visitors to confirm their age by clicking a button or entering
a birth date.

Token of Trust helps businesses **verify age using identity-backed verification**
when greater assurance is needed. Depending on the verification workflow, Token
of Trust can use customer information and identity verification methods to help
determine whether a customer meets the required age threshold.

That makes Token of Trust a fit for WooCommerce businesses selling age-restricted
products that need more than a simple 18+ or 21+ popup.

Add age verification to your customer journey, configure when verification is required,
and access additional identity verification capabilities when your business needs
them.

#### Who Is Token of Trust For?

Token of Trust is designed for WordPress and WooCommerce businesses that need to
verify customer age, identity, or both.

Common use cases include:

 * Vape, tobacco, and nicotine ecommerce
 * Alcohol ecommerce and other age-restricted products
 * Adult and age-restricted content
 * Customer identity verification
 * KYC and higher-assurance verification workflows

#### How Token of Trust Works With WordPress and WooCommerce

Getting started is straightforward:

 1. Install and activate the Token of Trust plugin.
 2. Create or connect your Token of Trust account. New accounts receive a free verification
quota that can be used to test your verification workflow.
 3. Configure your verification requirements.
 4. Add age or identity verification to the appropriate customer journey.
 5. Customers complete verification when required.
 6. Review verification results through your Token of Trust and WooCommerce workflow.

Verification can be triggered during WooCommerce checkout, for selected products
using product categories or tags, or for specific WordPress pages.

Previously verified customers can securely reuse an existing verification by confirming
access to the email address associated with that verification.

#### Age Verification Features

Token of Trust gives WordPress and WooCommerce businesses flexible control over
how and when customers are verified.

 * **Identity-backed age verification** using government-issued ID
 * **Flexible verification rules** based on minimum age, customer location, and
   selected WooCommerce products
 * **WooCommerce checkout verification** with verification status available on customer
   orders
 * **Reusable verification** that lets eligible returning customers securely confirm
   and reuse a previous verification
 * **On-demand verification** for WooCommerce orders that require an additional
   check
 * **Optional Age Gate** for self-declared age confirmation before visitors access
   your site

#### Identity Verification and KYC

Token of Trust can also support businesses that need to verify more than age.

 * **Identity verification** using government-issued ID and customer information
 * **KYC workflows** for businesses that need to verify customer identity as part
   of onboarding
 * **Identity validation** to evaluate customer information against verification
   requirements
 * **Higher-assurance workflows** when additional identity verification is required

This gives businesses access to broader identity assurance capabilities when their
requirements go beyond age verification.

#### Start With Free Verifications

on your WordPress or WooCommerce site with 25 free verifications.

No credit card required. Set up your verification workflow, run live age and identity
verifications, and test your integration today.

Keep track of your remaining free verifications right from your account. When you’re
ready for more, choose a plan that fits your verification needs.

#### Privacy-Focused Verification

Verification often involves sensitive customer information.

Token of Trust is designed to help businesses verify customer eligibility and identity
while limiting unnecessary friction and supporting privacy-conscious verification
workflows.

Instead of treating every visitor the same, businesses can configure verification
experiences appropriate to their use case and customer journey.

## FAQ

### Is Token of Trust free to try?

Yes. New Token of Trust accounts receive a limited number of free verifications
upfront. No credit card is required to get started.

Instead of a time-limited trial, your account uses a free verification quota. You
can configure your integration and use your available free verifications until the
quota is exhausted. Your account tracks usage so you can see how many free verifications
remain.

### What happens when I use my free verification quota?

Your account tracks each verification against your available free quota and displays
an alert showing how many free verifications remain.

Once your free verification quota is exhausted, you can add a payment method or
upgrade your account to continue running additional verifications.

### What is the difference between an age gate and age verification?

An age gate typically asks a visitor to self-declare their age, such as clicking“
I am 21+” or entering a date of birth.

Age verification provides additional assurance by using verification methods to
evaluate whether a customer meets the required age threshold.

Token of Trust supports identity-backed age verification for businesses that need
greater assurance than self-declaration.

### Can I require age verification only for certain WooCommerce products?

Yes. You can require age verification for selected products using WooCommerce product
categories or tags. If an order contains a product that matches a configured category
or tag, age verification is triggered at checkout.

To limit verification to selected categories or tags, set the minimum order amount
above zero. Otherwise, verification will apply to all orders.

### Can customers reuse their verification?

Yes. Eligible returning customers can securely reuse a previous verification by
confirming access to the email address associated with that verification.

This can help reduce unnecessary repeat verification for returning customers.

### Does Token of Trust support identity verification and KYC?

Yes. Token of Trust supports identity verification using government-issued IDs and
selfie matching, with capabilities that can support KYC workflows.

Businesses can use identity verification during customer onboarding, checkout, or
other workflows where identity assurance is required.

### Does installing Token of Trust make my business compliant?

No software by itself can determine or guarantee a business’s compliance with every
applicable law or regulation.

Token of Trust provides age and identity verification capabilities designed to help
businesses implement their verification and compliance workflows. Businesses should
determine their specific legal and regulatory obligations with appropriate advisors.

### Can I run Token of Trust on a local testing environment?

Yes. We support various localhost ports, including 80, 443, 3000, 3001, 3443, 7888,
8000, 8080, 8888, 32080, 32443, or 33080. The plugin identifies when you’re on localhost
and automatically adapts.

### How do I request a Data Processing Addendum (DPA)?

I have looked into all the plugins for KYC on Wordpress, and TOT is by far the best
way to do so. It does take a little bit of setup to get integrated with your site,
but, once done, is the best and easiest way to do this very complicated process.
Highly recommended.

We’ve been using Token of Trust for nearly four years, and their team has always
been responsive, professional, and solutions-oriented. Unlike many other services
that rely solely on forums or automated responses, we’ve always been able to connect
with real people who are knowledgeable and willing to help. From the beginning,
they made sure our integration went smoothly, answering questions and helping us
navigate the process. Sure, they ask for relevant details before troubleshooting—
that’s just good support practice. In our experience, it ensures they provide the
right answers without wasting time. Whenever challenges arose, they worked with
us to find the right solutions. If you’re looking for a service that prioritizes
security, compliance, and real customer support, Token of Trust has been a great
partner for us.

We installed the plugin, we had questions and went to their website, then they asked
for information before answering, where they refused to offer any information before
taking more details about our platforms, claiming that is a trust-building issue
argument which we do not buy. That was enough for us to uninstall and move to the
next plugin. This is our experience, so good luck with others to share more information
with you.

## Change Log

#### 4.3.2

 * Added onboarding progress tracking. The plugin now records which setup step a
merchant reaches and whether they are visiting for the first time or returning
to finish, enabling accurate drop-off reporting.

#### 4.3.1

 * Excise tax now updates automatically on the WooCommerce order screen as you edit
line items or the shipping/billing address, so the total shown before saving
matches what will actually be charged.

#### 4.3.0

 * Prepare the main token of trust to accept the exciseTax plugin without conflicts.

#### 4.2.4

 * Improved onboarding analytics accuracy. Corrected events that recorded the wrong
user action, and added merchant context (store type, plan, trial status) to onboarding
   events to support segmentation.

#### 4.2.3

 * “Minimum order amount” verification setting now has explicit choices (Disabled/
Verify all orders / Verify orders above an amount) instead of a blank field.
Existing stores are moved to the matching choice automatically.

#### 4.2.2

 * Fixed several issues that could cause excise tax to be calculated or reported
incorrectly, including tax based on outdated catalog pricing instead of what
the customer actually paid, orders whose shipment status never updated after
checkout, and a sync process that could stall entirely after a single failed
   order.

#### 4.2.1

 * SKU field is now required for product Sync feature to work, so we added the SKU
   alongside other fields.

#### 4.2.0

 * Support excise tax product synchronization for Nicotine Pouches and Hemp products
in WooCommerce, while decoupling product type assignment from tax exemptions
   and hardening product sync validation.

#### 4.1.0

 * We now follow the best practices generated by plugin checker from WordPress.

#### 4.0.17

value, who made the change, and when.

#### 4.0.16

 * Tested up to WP 7.1

that sell to a single country.
